Sandbag Program

The City offers sandbags to the public as part of its emergency service programs.  To manage appropriately the City asks the public to follow these instructions.

For Flood Emergencies Contact:

  • Secondary: Stormwater Manager: 801-208-3152; 801; 801-634-0452; email: tbeesley@rivertoncity.com
  • Third: City Hall 801-254-0704 and ask for Public Works Department
Emergencies are flood events where structures are being flooded.

For Non-Emergencies Contact:
  • Public Works Administrative Assistant: 801-208-3162; email: TBD
Non-Emergencies are anticipated flood events usually warnings of forecast cloudburst storm events.
Non-Emergency callers will need to file a Sandbag Application.  You may email the application, or print and bring it to the Public Works Receptionist at 12526 S 4150 W.
Usually applicants will need to fill their own sandbags and instructions will be provided upon arrival.

Emergency and non-emergency applicants are expected to dispose of their own sandbags.  The applicant will be informed of any exceptions on case by case basis.  Suggested options for sandbag disposal include but not limited to: Transjordan Landfill,  trash receptacle by one bag at a time, used on your property, etc.

Do not dump sandbags in creeks, rivers, canals, ditches, roadway gutters, storm drain inlets or any drain structure tributary to these systems.  Also take care to contain and keep the bag itself from breaking apart and blowing away as it will degrade quickly from UV rays.
