Upright Monuments are allowed up to 24” wide and from 8” to 36 “ tall. An 8”collar of cement at the ground level is required as a mow strip to prevent damage from the mowing machines. Double monuments or headstones may be up to 48” wide and up to 36” tall with an 8” collar or mow strip at ground level.
Flat Monuments laid even with the sod are allowed and may be up to 24” wide. Mow strips are not required for flat monuments, however, they are recommended.
CEMETERY REGULATIONS
1.On-site pouring of headstones is not allowed. The city does not lay headstones. This service must be provided by a commercially licensed monument company.
2.If the family chooses a “double” style monument which may be up to 48” wide, they should be aware they may be charged twice for moving and re-setting the headstone by the monument company. This occurs when the second occupant grave is prepared.
3.Ownership of a grave is sometimes passed on to family members through will bequests, or grants. An owner may petition to sell any un-used grave lots back to the city. Contact City Recorder for more information.
4.All burial services must be concluded and the cemetery empty before 4 p.m. Place flowers and small decorations at own risk, excessive decorations are not allowed. Absolutely no planting of any vegetation. Flowers are removed on Mondays for general maintenance and seasonal mowing.
