Riverton City is undertaking an update to the City’s Long Range Plan, and is calling the effort “Rediscovering Riverton”. The General Plan provides the framework for growth in the City, and shapes the development of commercial districts, residential neighborhoods, streets, trails and transportation options, and parks.
The plan should reflect the goals, ideals, and character of the City, and input from residents and business owners is critical to the process. Riverton City will be holding a series of public workshops focused on specific areas of the City. The first will focus on the Riverton’s downtown area, including the commercial development at the intersection of 12600 South and Redwood Road. The workshop will focus on questions like:
• What is missing from the Downtown area?
• What can make the Downtown area better?
• How should new development shape the Downtown?
Come and get involved in this important effort!

Questar has begun work on 13400 South to replace a high pressure gas line with a new, 20” gas main to accommodate growth in the Southwestern part of the valley. Construction is in Phase 1 (Mountain View Corridor to Bangerter Highway) of a multi-phase project that will eventually extend from 6400 West in Herriman to 1300 West in Riverton. Starting on approximately 1/18/12, they will be extending their work zone on 13400 South to the intersection at 5000 West. They will also be starting to put in more of their line starting at 3600 West and working eastward towards 2700 West starting tentatively on 1/23/12.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction at all times and could be further restricted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with construction truck traffic. The work zone is a 30 MPH speed zone and fines are double for speeding. UPD will be enforcing this area for safety. We encourage residents to detour and use 12600 South. Click here for more detail.
We will keep this information updated as we receive it. If you have questions or concerns, contact Terry Workman with Questar at (801) 652-3805 or by email at Terry.Workman@Questar.com.

Mountain View Corridor (MVC) construction is underway. Be prepared for delays in your area due to narrowed or closed lanes as crews are working heavily from 5400 South to approximately 16000 South with anticipated completion at the end of 2012. Work includes extensive earthwork, relocating utilities, constructing drainage systems and building bridges and structures. Stay informed about construction in your area: visit www.udot.utah.gov/mountainview, sign up for email updates and follow the project on Facebook and Twitter. Following is the most recent information about the construction in our area:
11800 South - 11800 South is now closed at approximately 5200 West between Daybreak Parkway and Vadania Drive. This is a permanent closure of the existing alignment of 11800 South from Daybreak Parkway to Vadania Drive. Construction crews will realign 11800 South to its new location where it will connect to Mountain View Corridor. 11800 South to the east and to the west of Mountain View Corridor remains open. Alternate Routes are available through 4000 West and Grandville Avenue for traffic to access Daybreak Parkway. This includes pedestrian traffic. During construction, concrete barrier will be placed on each side of the closure to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access into the construction zone.
12600 South - Traffic lanes are now shifted on 12600 South at approximately 4700 West where Mountain View Corridor intersects with 12600 South. This change will shift traffic to the outside of the roadway (two lanes on the north side and two lanes on the south side). This traffic shift will allow crews to install the final raised concrete median in the middle of the road. Sidewalks have been completed on the south side of the roadway for pedestrian access. Please stay on the designated sidewalks to walk or ride your bike through the construction zone.
13400 South - Traffic is now restricted to one lane in each direction. This traffic restriction is in place to allow Questar Gas to install a new high pressure gas line under the roadway. This project is not affiliated with the Mountain View Corridor. For more information regarding the gas line installation please call 801-324-5548.
The Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center (“VECC”) responds to your 9-1-1 call and dispatches needed firefighters and police officers. These same dispatchers can also send out emergency notifications to you and the community. If you see “0000000000” on your Caller ID, answer the phone because it could be fire, police or the City calling with emergency information. To send those emergency messages, VECC uses a 9-1-1 database for home and business phone numbers obtained from Qwest. Unfortunately, if your phone service uses the Internet to make your connection, such as Comcast cable, or you use a cellular phone as your home phone number, you could be missed. To register your mobile number, visit the VECC website by clicking here. This service is quick, free and secure. You will be asked to create a login and password in order to protect your information. This will make sure you don’t miss future emergency notifications.
The City of Riverton requested a comparison study be conducted to evaluate the cost of changing the primary source of culinary water for the City. The study is being conducted in an effort to explore the City’s options to increase water quality. This study was limited to the comparison of two alternatives; 1) continue pumping water from wells owned by the City for its primary source and purchasing water from Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District (JVWCD) as a back up water source for secodary and 2) convert the water purchased from JVWCD as the primary source and use well water from City owned wells as back-up culinary water source. This study includes a qualitative comparison of the two alternatives and a quantitative analysis to compare the total cost of operating the culinary water system under each of the two alternatives.
