Riverton City Announces 2024 Business and Community Award Recipients

Riverton City and the South Valley Chamber announced the recipients of the following awards on Thursday, February 15, 2024: The Apex Award, Business Woman of the Year, Business Man of the Year, Business of the Year, Excellence in Public Safety Award, Outstanding City Employee Award and the Mayor's Service Award.


The Apex Award
Ken & Sarah Greer
Kiwi Real Estate

Ken
and Sarah Greer are the husband-and-wife team owners of Kiwi Real Estate. Not only do the Greers help their clients achieve the American dream of homeownership, but they focus on helping our community’s heroes. The Greer’s take pride in their Serving Utah Heroes program. First responders, educators, healthcare workers, and military servicemembers received thousands in savings due to the Greers generosity. Their easy to recognize American Flag wrapped Jeep is often a feature at Riverton City events and throughout the valley. They have been members of the South Valley Chamber for over a year and are currently serving on the ambassadors’ committee, dedicated to mentoring young businesses.


Business Woman of the Year
Alma Lopez
Cakes By Edith

Alma Lopez
runs Cakes By Edith in Riverton as part of a family owned store founded by her mother, Edith. Starting as a homebased business, the family’s bakery catapulted to success by making custom cakes, as well as delicious traditional Mexican breads. Alma said that keeping this tradition alive is important to her. Alma graduated from UVU with a degree in entrepreneurship, but she acknowledged that working with her mother in the bakery has been the most fruitful education. Their store sits right outside the Old Dome Meeting Hall. Alma and her family are exemplary entrepreneurs. She is an ideal businesswoman in our community, setting an example for all that success is possible through hard work, a love of pastries, and with the support of family.


Business Man of the Year
Samer Salih
Dalia Real Estate

Samer Salih
owns Dalia Real Estate, a commercial real estate company that houses many of Riverton residents favorite businesses. Samer immigrated to the United States in 2008 with little to his name. Through Samer’s dedication and hard work he has built Dalia Real Estate into a very successful business. Though the industry can be challenging, he feels privileged to work in a field that greatly rewards those who quickly solve problems and provide excellent service to clients. His story is proof that the American Dream is alive and well in Riverton City for all those with a good work ethic and a service mindset.


Business of the Year
Chubby's Neighborhood Cafe
Owner: Mark Moak

Chubby’s
has operated in Riverton and has fast become a favorite among residents. Centered in the middle of the city, Owner Mark Moak has strived to make the restaurant a gathering place for the community. Today, Chubby’s employs over two dozen part-time employees who are often teenagers learning how to work hard and be part of a team. They regularly help run fundraisers to benefit police officers, survivors of sexual violence, youth baseball teams, and many others. Chubby’s Riverton is one of many locations owned and operated by the Moak brothers and family.


Excellence in Public Safety Award
Detective Jason Ruch
Riverton Police Department

Detective Jason Ruch
has been with the Riverton Police Department since its creation in July 2019. He came with an experienced background and a great career in law enforcement. Detective Ruch’s dedicated work ethic was demonstrated throughout this past year with several high-profile cases. One of the cases involved his work investigating a sexual assault. Through his perseverance and ingenuity, Detective Ruch was able to expand his efforts to locate other victims and to put a stop to the abuse. His determination led to an arrest and prosecution. The victims have expressed their sincere gratitude for his work to bring the perpetrator to justice.


Outstanding City Employee Award
Oscar Juarez
Riverton City Code Enforcement

Oscar Juarez
has been with Riverton City since 2021 and was assigned to code enforcement in 2022. His work requires prudent judgement and a presence of purpose to act both decidedly and listen attentively. One resident recently wrote in praise of Oscar. He investigated the ordinance complaint and got the issue resolved within a week. The resident told his supervisor that they are grateful to Oscar for his dedication. Oscar takes pride in his duties and often goes above and beyond to ensure residents of our community are impacted positively by his job performance.


Mayor’s Service Award
Scott Reid

Scott Reid
is a lifelong resident and nearly a lifelong volunteer with Riverton City. He has been a dependable help for the city since he was in high school. His experience and gracious spirit are a huge asset to the city, and one we rely on to put on successful events such as Riverton Town Days, Halloween Bash, Santa’s Arrival, and other events. City employees enjoy working with him and are grateful for his years of service. That service will continue as he has agreed to serve as the chair of the newly formed Riverton Community Arts. Riverton City is thankful to Scott and for all that he does for others. He is a worthy recipient of the Mayor’s Service Award.
